During this period, Erin the family Black Labrador was purchased. She gave birth to eight puppies, and Tara was kept. Sadly, when Missy was eight she passed away due to complications from a heart murmur.
After months of searching for a suitable breed of dog we were introduced to the Sussex Spaniel by Elaine Moore. Shortly after this, and two trips to Wigan, our first Sussex was purchased. Pebbles (Niriti Lady’s Mantle of Tawnyka) soon became the centre of the family’s attention, making us laugh on a daily basis.
She became my first show dog and although lightly shown she has done well. In 2005 she was mated to Onslow (Nyliram Captian Morgan for Sovaroma) and six beautiful healthy puppies were produced. Tansy was kept, despite her naughtiness!
Tansy has also done well in the show ring, including winning Best Puppy in Breed at Crufts 2006. She works regularly on at least one beating line during the shooting season. In January 2008 she delivered a litter of five puppies by Moss (Quarr Woodlander at Quintic) and in 2009 she produced our ‘naughty Nutmeg’ (Tawnyka Totally Nutmeg) by Jubilwell Thor.
We are situated in a small village, in the Naddder Valley near Salisbury (in Wiltshire). We currently own three Sussex Spaniels. These live alongside chickens, bees and three pet sheep. I have a BSc Honours degree in Animal Welfare and Behaviour.
Dogs have always been a big part of my life. When I was young I watched my mum (Delia) show, breed and work her Golden Retrievers (Foxhollow). In 1993, at the age of six I was allowed my very own dog. This was to be a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Missy, who became my best friend.
